How to List Federal Contractor Jobs With the New York State Job Bank
New York OFCCP job posting requirements point to the New York State Job Bank, run by the New York State Department of Labor. Covered federal contractors list their New York openings there so protected veterans receive priority referral. New York gives contractors three ways to get openings into the system, which makes choosing a method the main decision. For the definition behind the rule, read our guide to the mandatory job listing.
The New York State Job Bank
The New York State Job Bank is one of the Department of Labor’s main sources for job postings, and listing openings there is free for employers. The Department also runs NY Talent, a matching tool that uses artificial intelligence to compare job orders and resumes on skills instead of keywords. Job seekers and employers reach the Job Bank at myjobs.ny.gov.
Three Ways to List Jobs in New York
Indexing is a free feature that pulls jobs from your corporate career site into the Job Bank automatically. It refreshes nightly, so adding, changing, or closing a job on your site updates the Job Bank the next night. You sign up by submitting an indexing request on the Job Bank website. Self-posting means creating an account and entering and managing your own job orders. Staff-assisted posting means sending orders to the Department of Labor by email, fax, or phone so staff enter them for you.
Choosing a Method as a Federal Contractor
Indexing suits contractors with steady volume, but confirm the feed carries the job details and equal opportunity language you need. The Department’s job order form asks whether your company holds a federal contract that requires openings to be listed with the Department of Labor, so tell the Department about your federal contractor status whichever method you use. A single job order through the Department reaches all its offices, so you do not need to notify offices one by one. Processes change, so confirm current steps with the Department before you set a routine.
Which New York Openings Must Be Listed
Covered contractors list most openings. Executive and senior management roles, positions filled from within the company, and jobs lasting three days or less fall outside the requirement. Openings in New York City and upstate New York follow the same rule, and a role recruited by a team in another state still belongs in New York’s system when the work location is in New York.
Required Language and State Rules in New York
Every version of a covered posting should carry the EEO tagline, VEVRAA affirmative action language, and the Section 503 disability inquiry invitation, including the entry in the Job Bank. New York also has state posting rules of its own, separate from OFCCP, so coordinate your language with counsel who covers those rules.
Documenting New York Listings for an OFCCP Review
The record depends on the method. With indexing, keep evidence that the feed was active and that each job appeared in the Job Bank. With staff-assisted posting, keep the email, fax, or call confirmation. With self-posting, keep the job order record. In every case, tie the record to the requisition and retain it for the required period, generally at least two years.
